Typhoon Kajiki leaves 7 dead, dozens injured in central Vietnam

VOV.VN - Typhoon Kajiki that slammed into central Vietnam on August 25 has left 7 dead, 1 missing, and 34 injured, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.

Preliminary reports also show nearly 9,000 residential houses and dozens of public works such as schools, and healthcare facilities have sustained roof damage or structural harm. Rising floodwaters have also submerged more than 3,600 houses.

In the agricultural sector, over 81,500 hectares of rice fields, 4,500 hectares of vegetables, and 1,690 hectares of aquaculture farms have been submerged. Nearly 2,000 livestock and poultry have bene killed or swept away.

Nearly 21,000 trees have been toppled, and many transportation routes, irrigation works, and power and telecom systems have suffered landslides and severe damage. Approximately 1.6 million customers have experienced power outages, with widespread disruptions to communication services.

The Prime Minister, in a telegram on August 26, extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and missing, and expressed deep sympathy for the hardships and losses endured by those affected.

To step up recovery efforts, the Prime Minister has instructed local authorities to continue mobilising all necessary forces and equipment to quickly access isolated areas, implement urgent response measures, restore production and business activities, and stabilise the lives of residents.
