According to the National Hydrometeorology Forecasting Centre, after passing the southern part of Luzon Island into the Philippines on November 30, Typhoon Durian hit the East Sea as storm No.9 in 2006.

At 13:00 on the afternoon of December 1, the centre of Typhoon Durian was situated at 13.60 N latitude and 119.20 E longitude. The strongest wind force near its centre strengthened to category 12 (118-133km per hour).

 

It is forecast that Typhoon Durian will move west at a speed of 15km per hour in the next 24 hours. At 13:00 on December 2, the centre of Typhoon Durian will be at 13.70 N latitude and 116.30 E longitude, about 560km southeast of the Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago.

 

In the next 24-48 hours, the typhoon will continue moving west at a speed of 10-15km per hour. At 13:00 on December 3, its centre will be at 13.70 N latitude and 114.20 E longitude, about 410km south and southeast of the Paracel archipelago.

 

Due to the storm impacts, there will be rough seas and strong winds gusting up to category 9 and 10 in the East Sea, and up to category 11 and 12 near the storm centre.

 

According to the Central Committee for Flood and Storm Control, at 6:00 on the morning of December 1, 14,585 ships and boats remained operating offshore, more than 82 of them with 883 fishermen in the dangerous areas around the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos.
