Currently, around two-thirds of Vietnam’s population lack water and have no access to safe water and a number of rivers are seriously polluted.

Facts have shown that the Phu Ly water plant using water from the Nhue and Day Rivers has had to suspend its operations many times. During the dry season, waste contents account for 15 percent of the water volume taken from the Cau river running through Thai Nguyen city.

According to experts, the worsening situation is attributed to poor management of water resources, and lack of solutions for keeping water from flowing out into the East Sea.

To strengthen the management of water resources, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment have proposed effectively using fundings from state budget to improve the quality of water resources.

In the near future, water resource managers will issue specific regulations on water price and tax.
