The Health Ministry on October 9 confirmed two new deaths from the A/H1N1 flu, bringing the total fatalities from the disease in the country to 22.

One of the two victims was a 36-year-old woman from the southern province of Ben Tre . She showed symptoms of the disease (high temperatures, headache and coughing) on October 2 and was hospitalised two days later. She was prescribed to use Tamiflu, but her health deteriorated and she died the following morning.

According to the Ho Chi Minh Pasteur Institute, the woman tested positive for the deadly A/H1N1 virus.

The other victim was a 19-year-old man from the northern province of Bac Giang. He went down with a cough and fever on October 4 and was admitted to the provincial general hospital on October 5. He was moved to Bach Mai hospital in Hanoi on October 6 for intensive care and died on the following day.

The National Institute for Hygiene and Epidemiology found that he tested positive for the H1N1 virus.

The Ministry of Health also confirmed 79 more cases of A/H1N1 on October 9, bringing to 9,868 the total number of infected cases. More than 8,800 people have been discharged from hospital, while the remainder are under treatment and in stable condition.
