They were identified as Pham Thi Tuyet Chinh, 26, residing in Giao Tien commune of Giao Thuy district in the northern province of Nam Dinh; and Vi Van Nhap, 41, residing in Chau Binh commune of Quy Chau district.
According to the initial investigation, police noticed that Chinh and Nhap had co-operated with each other to lure people from poor families to Laos for employment and promised to pay them high salaries. The victims were then sold to international criminal gangs in order to work in the Golden Triangle zone.
The police also revealed that one of the male victims had fled away from the Special Economic Zone by using a foam raft to swim along the Mekong River for more than eight days and nights. With support from Vietnamese people working in Laos, he was able to return to Vietnam where he informed the police about the suspects.
On August 8, the police discovered that Tuyet Chinh was in Vietnam, following which they immediately caught her red-handed as she was entering Bat Xat district of the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai.
Vi Van Nhap was also arrested by local police forces. An investigation into the case is now underway.
