According to Dr. Nguyen Trung Cap, deputy director of the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases, nine patients are currently in a challenging situation, with six of them showing signs of lung damage caused by COVID-19, whilst three cases are suffering from both COVID-19 and malaria simultaneously.

The remaining 11 positive COVID-19 cases are now in a stable condition in local health facilities.

Information about the patients comes after a plane carrying 219 Vietnamese citizens from Equatorial Guinea successfully landed at Noi Bai International Airport at 5pm on July 29.

Upon arrival, each passenger was immediately transferred to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Dong Anh district in order to be placed into quarantine to receive treatment.

During the flight, 15 of the cases displayed symptoms of fever, with five patients also suffering from respiratory failure and shortness of breath. Thankfully, all of the cases were treated in a timely manner due to the presence of medical staff onboard the repatriation flight.

After bringing the stranded citizens home safe and sound, the entirety of the crew, along with four medical staff at the hospital, must now undergo a 14 day-quarantine period in line with regulations put in place to prevent the further spread of the COVID-19.
