The Vietnam Railways Corporation has reduced the price of train tickets for a bed on the Hanoi-Nanning route by 45 percent to attract more travellers.

Groups of 6 people and above will see train tickets discounted by 25 percent.

The Hanoi-Nanning route has been in operation since January 1, 2009, however, after 7 months, each train has only 5-7 passengers on average.

The main reason for this is the price of a one-way train ticket is VND1,191,000 while a single bus ticket only costs VND300,000.

Also, the time that passengers have to wait to clear immigration and customs lasts too long, 4.5 hours. The route, which takes 13 hours, often runs at night, which can also cause problems for passengers.
