Tragic drowning cases on the rise nationwide

VOV.VN - More than 20 students have drowned across the country during the past week though the summer vacation is yet to arrive.

Seven cases were reported in Nghe An, three each in Binh Dinh and Dak Lak, two each in Lasi Chau and Dong Nai, and at least 10 cases in other localities.

Most of the drownings were reported when students went swimming in rivers and streams in their localities to avoid early summer heat.

Experts warn the number of drowning deaths may rise in the coming months as students finish their school year and the summer vacation is coming near.

Hotter weather would lead more people in the water, and unfortunately more people in the water means more people are at risk of drowning, said experts.

To prevent such drownings, they suggested that localities, schools and parents provide students with knowledge about swimming and what to do when drowning occurs.
