The 12th conference of the Asia-Pacific Labour Network (APLN) opened in Hanoi on November 9 to discuss and make recommendations on labour-related issues to APEC leaders at their summit in Hanoi next week.
During the two-day meeting, nearly 40 delegates representing trade unions from APEC member economies and international trade union organisations will review APLN activities in 2006 and outline its tasks in 2007 in the lead-up to the 13th APLN Conference to be held in Australia.
Discussions will be mainly focused on employee-related issues, including job generation, human resource development, social welfare network, economic development and trade liberalisation in respect of fundamental rights of employees and trade unions.
They are expected to adopt the conference’s statement on submission to the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting.
