Japan's Toshiba corporation pledged to help Vietnam implement renewable energy projects at a seminar on the environment, tourism and atomic energy held in Hanoi on August 22.

At the seminar, the Japanese company introduced "biomass technology", a method to recycle wastes generated from agricultural and industrial production as well as the food processing industry then turn them into energy. This technology does not harm the environment by causing green house gas emissions.

According to the Toshiba technical director, the application of biomass technology at Vietnamese husbandry farms and food processing plants would bring great benefits as it markedly helps reduce environmental pollution and partially ease the shortage of power.

A Toshiba representative said the company is looking for Vietnamese partners to carry out biomass projects to both treat contaminated water and to turn wastes from husbandry farms into electricity.
