Thuan An sea-crossing bridge opens to traffic, longest in central Vietnam
VOV.VN - The central city of Hue opened Thuan An sea-crossing bridge to technical traffic on April 30, a key project linking the city centre with the eastern coastal area.
With a total investment of more than VND2.4 trillion, it is currently the longest sea-crossing bridge in central Vietnam.
Thuan An bridge is the main component of the coastal road project through Hue City and the Thuan An sea-crossing bridge (phase 1). The entire route is nearly 7.8 km long, of which the bridge section spans about 2.36 km.
The bridge uses reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete structures, ensuring traffic capacity while providing sufficient navigation clearance for vessels passing through the Thuan An sea inlet. It is 20-23.5 metres wide and has four lanes for motor vehicles.
Construction began in March 2022. According to the Hue City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board, although the project was initially scheduled for completion in 2025, construction faced difficulties related to site clearance and other external factors.
As of the technical opening, key components such as the bridge deck, lighting system, traffic signs, safety barriers and road markings have been largely completed and are ready for vehicle circulation, while remaining works will continue to be carried out for full completion.
The project is expected to mark a significant improvement in transport infrastructure along the central coastal area. It helps shorten travel distance from central Hue to coastal communes, while easing pressure on existing routes.
The bridge also opens up new urban development areas to the east of the city, helping attract investment in coastal tourism, fisheries logistics services and logistics, and supporting a more sustainable economic structure in Hue City.
