Thua Thien – Hue develops rural areas
The central coastal province of Thua Thien – Hue aims to raise nearly VND7.2 trillion to develop rural areas from now to 2020.
In 2017, the province strives to have nine additional communes meeting the standards of the national programme on new-style rural areas. Last year’s figure was seven.
The agricultural sector targets growth of over 2 percent and harvesting more than 320,000 tonnes of grain and 60,000 tonnes of seafood this year.
The rate of poor households in rural areas fell to 5.94% in 2016 from 14.9% in 2011.
Per capita income in the region was estimated at VND23.1 million in 2016, a year-on-year increase of 12.8%.
Thua Thien – Hue has so far built and upgraded 1,104 km of rural roads while reinforcing 491 km of canals along with hundreds of other facilities such as breakwaters, water reservoirs, and water pumping stations, helping ensure irrigation for 98% of cultivation areas.
The province has also improved infrastructure at 125 schools.
The ratio of people holding health insurance cards was 81%, whilst 75% had access to clean water.
