Three severely injured as boat carrying 42 foreigners collides with ferry
VOV.VN - A tour guide and two foreign tourists were severely injured after a collision between a boat carrying foreign tourists and a passenger ferry on the Tien River of Tien Giang province, southern Vietnam, on April 19.
The accident happened at 17:25 when Hang Chau Tourist Express Boat carrying 42 foreign tourists on board was en route from Phnom Penh, Cambodia, to Chau Doc town of An Giang province.
When the boat was traversing Vinh Xuong commune of An Giang province, about a kilometer away from Cambodia, it collided with a passing passenger ferry.
Witnesses said the ferry’s bow crashed into the middle of the boat’s side, breaking a large chunk. Tourists standing nearby were strongly shaken and fell to the floor.
A male tour guide had his right arm cut off by a piece of iron and both legs broken, while two male tourists from Germany and France also had fractured left legs.
The three injured were immediately taken to Tan Chau district hospital for emergency treatment. As the boat was in danger of sinking, all tourists were moved to the ferry.
Bui Thai Hoang, an official of Vinh Xuong commune said, after treatment, the two injured foreign tourists were in a stable condition, while the tour guide was transferred to Chau Doc general hospital for intensive care and treatment.
Authorities opened an investigation into the cause of the accident.
