The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the National Steering Committee on Bird Flu Prevention and Control have issued a telegram urging cities, provinces, ministries, sectors and local authorities to boost measures to prevent the disease.

The telegram says bird flu and type A H5N1 flu in humans are developing complicatedly, particularly when the disease shows no sign of abating in neighbouring countries with the illegal trading and transport of poultry and poultry products through border-gates becoming more difficult to control.

In addition, winter is coming, which will create favourable conditions for bird flu to develop and spread. There will be high risk of bird flu recurrence in the country, particularly in the remaining months of the year.

Local authorities are urged to conduct the second vaccination campaign for this year, disinfect high-risk areas and strictly control trading and transport of poultry and poultry products. They are also asked to closely monitor, detect and quickly curb outbreaks effectively. An anti-bird flu month will be launched nationwide from October 15 to November 15.
