The terminal is expected to help increase passenger service capacity at Tan Son Nhat Airport whilst contributing to developing the aviation infrastructure of the southern city and the country as well.
The inaugural of the terminal is slated for April 19 as part of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 – 2025).
Tan Son Nhat Airport plans to operate flights Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air at the new terminal in the first phase, while Vasco, Bamboo Airways, Vietravel Airlines, and Pacific Airlines will continue to use Terminal 1 for takeoffs and landings.
The new passenger terminal, one of the key national transport projects, incorporates the latest and most modern airport technology and equipment in Vietnam. It comprises four main components, namely a passenger terminal, a multi-story parking facility with non-aviation services, a terminal front overpass system, and an aircraft parking area, with a total investment of nearly VND11 trillion.
The terminal has been designed to serve 20 million passengers a year and 7,000 passengers during peak hours. It will handle all types of code C and code E aircraft.
