The opening game saw the fierce competition between Cup defenders Moscow Energy Institute and their rivals Obolen.
Vu Ngoc Minh, a Moscow Energy Institute student, said such a tournament is very useful as it helps connect all Vietnamese students at training institutions in Moscow together.
“More importantly, we have the chance to meet and share experiences, and we hope more similar events will be held in the future,” Minh said.
Since its first debut in 1997, the tournament has been held annually by the Vietnam Students Association in Moscow to maintain physical exercises among Vietnamese students and promote exchanges between universities in the capital.
After more than 10 years, the tournament has become an indispensable source of food for thought amongst Vietnamese nationals studying in Moscow. It has also received great support from the Vietnamese Embassy and Vietnamese communities in Russia.
This year, the tournament is held to celebrate Vietnam’s big anniversaries, including the 35th anniversary of Southern Liberation Day (April 30), May Day (May 1), the 56th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7), the 120th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh, and the 65th anniversary of National Day (September 2).
