Students attend 2013 Shell Eco-Marathon Asia in Malaysia

(VOV) - Six Vietnamese student teams will compete at the 2013 Shell Eco-Marathon Asia, a contest that promotes energy conservation, to be held in Kuala Lumpur from July 4–7.

The teams include two representing Hanoi Polytechnic University, two representing HCM City Industry University, one from the Hanoi Industry University, and one from HCM City Polytechnic University.

Vietnamese students will compete against 140 teams from more than 18 Asian countries and territories. This is the third year Vietnam has participated in the event.

Shell Vietnam President Nguyen Anh Tuyet said the contest encourages younger Vietnamese generations to recognise the importance of saving energy and motivates new perspectives that could eventually help national development and climate change mitigation.

Shell holds its global Eco-Marathon annually for pupils and students aged between 16–25, hoping to promote creativity and lay technical knowledge foundations that will be useful in the future.

Contestants are required to design and construct vehicles that can travel the farthest distance with the most energy efficiency.
