It is imperative to contact and guide ships and boats still at sea to take shelter for their own safety, said Deputy Prime Minster Nguyen Sinh Hung at a meeting with the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control in Hanoi on November 1.

Mr Hung  asked central provinces to take more effective measures to call back fishing boats and vessels operating offshore in the northern area of the East Sea and territorial waters adjacent to Taiwan.

He also requested the Ministry of Fisheries, the Foreign Ministry, border guards and rescue workers to prepare emergency plans and get ready to help people when the storm makes landfall.

The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs were asked to strictly control the distribution of relief aid for needy people so as to reduce negative impacts of the storm.

The same day, Deputy PM Truong Vinh Trong examined preparations in central Thua Thien Hue province to cope with Typhoon Cimaron and asked the local authorities to further support the families which recently suffered great losses caused by Typhoon Xangsane and to keep people fully informed of the developments of Typhoon Cimaron. Local administrations were asked to ensure transport safety and sufficient food supply for people in calamity-prone areas.
