Storms and floods which are expected to hit Vietnam in August will bring heavy rains to force water levels in the rovers, especially in the northern and central regions to rise sharply.

According to deputy director of the National Centre for Hydrometeorology Duong Lien Chau, total rainfall from July to October will be equal or a little higher than in previous years as many storms are likely to hit in August.

Ms Chau added that forecasts by the centre and other international forecast centres in Asia-Pacific, China, Japan, the US, and the Philippines are the same.

Recently, a number of storms appeared in the East Sea and moved northwards to China. However, in the coming period, storms will veer off course to hit Vietnam along its northern, central and southern coastal areas.

In the northern region, the water level in the Hong (Red) river will reach its peak in August and September, while floods will hit the central and south-central regions in October and November and the southern region will turn up in September and October.
