The Vietnam Red Cross Society on December 21 received over US$62,000 in cash and US$15,000 worth of goods from its Singaporean counterpart to support victims of storms Ketsana and Mirinae.

The grants were contributed by Singaporean people and Temasek Company.

At the ceremony, Singaporean Ambassador to Vietnam Wong Wie Kuen said the fundraising to assist Vietnamese victims of natural disasters in the recent past reflected the fine Singapore-Vietnam relationship and demonstrated how the Singaporean people from all walks of life care for the Vietnamese people.

The diplomat said a number of Singaporean companies have already donated US$150,000 to aid Vietnam’s central provinces and cities that were hardest hit by tropical storms.

President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society Tran Ngoc Tang thanked the government and the people of Singapore and pledged to deliver the aid to the affected residents soon.
