Storm Nangka heading for northern and north-central Vietnam

VOV.VN - Northern and north-central Vietnam is braced for the arrival of storm Nangka, the seventh storm this year, with the weather pattern heading for northern regions following its evolution from a tropical depression on the afternoon of October 12, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

Storm Nangka has made an appearance a day following Storm Linfa making landfall in central Vietnam.

As of 1 p.m., Storm Nangka was situated at approximately 430 km to the east-northeast of the nation’s Paracel islands, with maximum wind speeds reaching 75 kph.

Over the course of the subsequent 24 hours, the storm is anticipated to move west-northwest at roughly 20 kph before growing stronger. By 1 p.m. on October 13  the epicentre of the storm is expected to be above the eastern area of China’s Hainan island, with maximum wind speeds reaching 100 kph.

Most notably, storm Nangka will likely bring strong winds to several areas of the East Sea over the course of the next 24 hours, the centre stated.

This comes after Storm Linfa, the sixth storm this year, brought spells of torrential rain that triggered mass flooding and landslides in the centre of the country, with at least 21 people being confirmed dead and a further 14 missing.

Natural disasters, mainly floods and landslides triggered by storms, claimed the lives of 132 citizens and injured a further 207 nationwide last year.
