Storm Mulan causes flight disruption in Vietnam
VOV.VN - Several airlines were forced to either readjust or cancel their flight schedules on domestic routes on August 11 due to the impact caused by Storm Mulan which weakened into a tropical depression and struck northern coastal localities early the same day.
In its announcement, Vietnam Airlines made the decision to cancel two flights between Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City, coded VN1182 and VN1175. It also delayed the departure time of two other flights, VN1178 and VN1182, on the same route.
The national flag carrier also delayed the departure time of other flights, including those on the Buon Ma Thuot - Hai Phong route (flight numbers VN1512 and VN1513), the Cam Ranh - Hai Phong route (VN1580 and VN1581), and on the Da Lat - Hai Phong route (VN1520 and VN1521).
Some other flights operated by Vietnam Airlines were also affected due to the schedule changes.
Meanwhile, budget airline Vietjet Air also rearranged its schedule for a number of flights both to and from Hai Phong on August 11.
The airlines stated that they would support passengers following the changes.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam had previously sent a telegram requesting all airlines and relevant units to proactively brace for the impact of Storm Mulan in order to minimise its negative impact on flight operations.
Mulan was downgraded to a tropical depression early on August 11 before it struck localities along the northern coast hours later.
The tropical depression caused heavy rain to occur throughout the mainland, with some localities set to receive more than 100mm of rain throughout the day.
The tropical depression is forecast to move further inland before dissipating over the coming hours.
