A stele in commemoration of Vietnamese voluntary soldiers who had been sent to help Laos during the war, was inaugurated the central province of Quang Ngai on March 24.

The 1.6m high stone was built in De An village in Nghia Hanh district, from where the first groups of Vietnamese voluntary soldiers departed for their mission in Laos and northeastern Cambodia on August 19, 1948.

The inauguration of the stele aims to tighten the special and traditional relationship between Vietnam and Laos, said the Head of the Lao Party’s Steering Board of the Theoretical, Ideological and Cultural Work, Saman Vinhaket, in a letter to the voluntary soldier liaison committee.-Enditem

Construction of the stele, at a cost of VND100 million, was funded by donations from former Vietnam-Laos voluntary soldiers and Quang Ngai authorities.
