Standing water slows traffic in Hanoi
Friday, 17:34, 18/09/2015
(VOV) -Heavy rainfall from late in the evening September 17 to the morning of September 18 caused flooding in Hanoi and the surrounding metropolitan area making travelling a little trickier than usual.
Even when the rain stopped at 7am, vehicles could only travel at a snail’s pace. Traffic was seriously congested at the intersection of Nguyen Xien, Nguyen Trai and Khuat Duy Tien streets. |
Traffic was backed up for a kilometre on Nguyen Trai Street with thousands of vehicles stalled by nearly a foot of rain. |
At 8:30 am, traffic was still stuck. |
The National Hydro-meteorological Forecasting Centre measured the rainfall at 60 mm in the downtown area. |
Traffic problems were compounded by drivers deliberately ignoring traffic signals and police instructions. |
The heavy rain and strong winds uprooted many trees and caused numerous others around the capital city to snap and topple over. |
