St. Petersburg administration honors representative of Vietnamese community
VOV.VN - Governor Alexander Beglov presented city awards at the St. Petersburg city administration headquarters on November 3 to individuals with outstanding contributions across various fields, ahead of Russia's National Unity Day (November 4).
Among the two foreigners honored this time was Do Xuan Hoang, Chairman of the Union of Vietnamese Organisations in Russia, and Chairman of the Fund on Promotion of Russia-Vietnam Cooperation Development "Tradition and Friendship". He was awarded the badge "For Special Achievements in St. Petersburg's International Cooperation."
This is the second time a representative of the Vietnamese community in Russia has been awarded this distinction by St. Petersburg. The other person honored was Augustin Csisar, former Consul General of Slovakia in St. Petersburg.
At the ceremony, Governor Alexander Beglov acknowledged the contributions of cultural and educational experts, diplomats, and public figures in strengthening St. Petersburg's position as a center for international dialogue. He also emphasized the role of educators in preserving traditional spiritual and moral values and guiding the younger generation.
Speaking upon receiving the honor, Do Xuan Hoang emphasized that this is a respectable recognition by the St. Petersburg city administration of the entire Vietnamese community living, studying, and working in Russia. He highly appreciated the attention, support, and companionship of the local administration, emphasizing that the Vietnamese community is gradually shifting from economic development to enhancing knowledge, deeply integrating, and actively contributing to Russian society.
These efforts also contribute to promoting the traditional friendship between the two countries’ people.
Over the past years, the "Tradition and Friendship" Foundation has served as a bridge in strengthening people-to-people exchanges and cooperation between the two countries. One of the recent prominent activities is successfully coordinating the organization of the second Russia-Vietnam People's Forum in St. Petersburg.
The foundation is also supporting the establishment of the Russia-Vietnam Knowledge Network, connecting experts and scholars to contribute initiatives and policy proposals serving Vietnam's economic, scientific, and technological development.
St. Petersburg is one of Russia's leading economic, commercial, scientific, educational, and military centers. The city maintains cooperative relations with many Vietnamese localities, having sister-city ties with Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Dien Bien, and Khanh Hoa. In September 2026, the Vietnam News Agency became Vietnam's first national press agency to sign an information cooperation agreement with the External Relations Committee of St. Petersburg.
