In the Mekong Delta, Hau Giang province has finished the supplemental vaccination for more than 420,000 fowls, most of which are ducks. The Red Cross Society in Tien Giang province has been implementing the second phase of the project to prevent avian influenza in humans.

*** Though Hau Giang province banned the raising of poultry till the end of February, more than 60 percent of the province’s poultry stock has been newly-raised.


To prevent the spread of the disease, Hau Giang authorities have launched vaccination campaigns for more than 420,000 birds, most of which are ducks. The provincial Veterinary Department is importing dozens of thousands of vaccine doses to prepare for supplemental vaccination in localities.


*** Meanwhile, the Red Cross Society in Tien Giang province has been implementing the second phase of the project “Preventing bird flu epidemic and avian influenza in humans” sponsored by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The project aims to provide basic information on bird flu prevention and change the traditional methods of raising birds.
