The 6th Representative Congress of the Vietnam Youth Union began its first working day at the My Dinh National Conference Centre in Hanoi on April 26 to review the past term and define direction for the new term.

Present were one thousand young representatives from Vietnam and abroad, the highest figure compared with previous congresses.

They represent 54 ethnic groups nationwide, 85 delegates belonging to different religions, and 345 representing women. The number of delegates having university level education and above occupies over 77 percent, the average age is 32 and the youngest 16 years old.

General Vo Nguyen Giap himself wrote a letter of congratulations to the congress.

The focus of discussion in the afternoon was on mastering science and technology, volunteering for social welfare, protecting the environment, improving the community’s health care, as well as strengthening the Vietnam Youth Union by enlarging its membership.
