The Vietnamese Ministry of Health confirmed the sixth fatal case of A/H1N1 flu in the country on September 13.
The victim was a 19-year-old girl from the southern province of Ben Tre.
The ministry said her illness started on September 3. She decided to buy medicine to treat herself at home but there was no progress and she was hospitalized on September 5.
Her sample tested positive for the flu virus on September 11. The girl died on September 12 despite being treated with Tamiflu.
Her death followed three others in Ho Chi Minh City and two in the southern provinces of Dong Nai and Khanh Hoa.
An additional 220 more A/H1N1 cases were reported only on September 13, including 150 in the south, 35 in the north, and 24 in the central region.
The total number of A/H1N1 cases in Vietnam now stands at 4,464, of whom 3,350 have been discharged from hospital.
