Health officials on July 11 confirmed six more cases of A/H1N1 influenza infection, bringing the country’s total number of positive cases to 285.

According to the Ministry of Health, all the new cases were diagnosed in the southern region, of whom four are foreigners travelling to Vietnam by air.

So far, 221 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital. The remaining patients are being treated at hospital and they are in stable condition. No deaths have been reported, said the ministry.

The Ministry warned big cities and provinces of a possible outbreak of the flu epidemic in the coming months as students are preparing for a new school year. It asked medical centres across the country to keep a close watch on the latest developments of the flu, promptly detect and deal with suspected cases to prevent an outbreak within the community.

The ministry also recommended that several northern mountainous provinces which were recently hit by floods and landslides pay special attention to food hygiene and environmental sanitation.
