Singapore provides emergency relief to flood-hit residents in Tuyen Quang province

The Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on October 25 received emergency relief from Singapore to support people affected by recent storms and floods in the northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang.

The supplies, including thermal blankets and personal hygiene kits, was provided by Singapore’s Ministry of Defence and relevant organisations through the Singapore Embassy in Vietnam and the Regional Humanitarian Coordination Centre (RHCC). The aid is being delivered in two batches, with the first arriving at Noi Bai International Airport at noon on October 25 and the second expected in the coming days.

At the handover ceremony, Singaporean Ambassador to Vietnam Jaya Ratnam delivered the relief aid to Nguyen Van Tien, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority. After the full reception of both consignments, all relief goods will be transported to Tuyen Quang for distribution to local residents in disaster-affected areas.

Earlier, the Singapore Red Cross provided a relief package worth SGD50,000 (around US$38,500) to the Vietnam Red Cross Society to support emergency assistance in the provinces of Cao Bang, Thai Nguyen, Lang Son, and Nghe An.

As of October 24, embassies and international organisations have provided and pledged a total of nearly US$9.4 million in aid to localities affected by typhoons Bualoi and Matmo.
