Nguyen Thuong Cuc and her accomplices will stand trial at the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Court on November 10 on the charge of terror, the court’s chief judge Bui Hoang Danh announced at a press briefing in the city on November 6.

The accused are Nguyen Thuong Cuc (alias Foshee Thuong Nguyen) born in 1948, Huynh Bich Lien (alias A Linh, Linda) born in 1955, Cao Tri (alias Quoc) born in 1971, Le Van Binh (alias Phu) born in 1975, Tran Dat Phuong (alias Hai Phuong) born in 1941, Ho Van Giau (alias Ba Giau) born in 1947 and Ho Van Hien (alias Sau Hien) born in 1968.
Seven lawyers have been appointed to defend the accused, according to Mr Danh.

On April 30, 1995, Nguyen Huu Chanh founded the so-called Government of Free Vietnam (GFVN) in the US with the aim of sabotaging the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Chanh claimed to be the Prime Minister of the GFVN.

Since 1997, Chanh had sent his aid and equipment including 23kg of explosives, 19 detonators and grenades to Vietnam in an attempt to carry out terrorist activities at public places. A 36-member group led by Le Kim Hung was ordered to carry out the task. The plan was detected and all 36 members were arrested. The Ho Chi Minh People’s Court brought to court and handed down sentences to all of them at a trial on May 29, 2001.

Since June 2001, Chanh had secretly abetted and aided his accomplices to plant bombs at the Vietnamese Embassies in Thailand and the Philippines.

In early 2005, Chanh ordered his accomplices to install radio equipment to jam Voice of Vietnam and local radio broadcasts and call on people to overthrow the government. After opening a representative office (USIM) in Cambodia to run charitable activities in disguise, they incited and trained other bad elements in installing and using equipment to storm radio waves. They took to Vietnam 14 transmitters and five power generators.

In brief, Chanh has founded different groups to carry out different tasks in different periods with the aim of carrying out terrorist activities against Vietnam.

According to the chief judge, there is plenty of hard evidence against the seven accused on the charge of terror in accordance with Article 84 of Vietnam's Criminal Code and the trial will be conducted lawfully.
