In response to World Consumer Rights Day, the Competition Management Department under the Ministry of Trade held a seminar in Hanoi on March 15 to discuss the implementation of activities to protect consumers’ interests in future.

The aim of the World Consumer Rights Day is to fight immoral commercials for drugs and heighten the government and pharmaceutical producers’ responsibility for protecting the health and safety of consumers.

At the seminar, vice chairman of the Vietnam Standards and Consumers Association, Do Gia Phan emphasized that illegal commercials for drugs are a pressing issue in the world, especially in developing countries like Vietnam. He said the dissemination of up-to-date information through mass media, leaflet delivery and other propaganda activities will help expose immoral commercials for drugs.

Head of the Competition Management Department, Dinh Thi My Loan said, her department will strictly supervise the implementation of the ordinance on protecting consumers’ rights and assist trade and tourism departments to fulfil their tasks in localities. She suggested that local departments co-ordinate with relevant agencies to resolve complaints from consumers and perfect legal regulations concerning the protection of consumers’ rights in the process of international integration.
