Pham Manh Hung, VOV Deputy General Director, head of the festival’s organising board and deputy head of the judging panel, said radio must make use of advances in science and technology and the digital space to strengthen its capacity and credibility on digital platforms, including across borders.

He said that while traditional radio remains an important foundation for live radio, in the long term the digital space is the main space for radio. To win over listeners, radio journalists need to maximise the capabilities of both individuals and teams. Media outlets should actively seek ways and platforms to keep radio alive and affirm its role in social life.

Assessing entries in the live radio category at the festival, he said most programmes have been brought onto social media quickly and produced in a more autonomous manner. He said radio must adapt, must continue to seek audiences by all means and through sustained, persistent efforts, and that if it relies only on traditional radio, it will fall behind. Radio content and programmes, he added, should be brought onto digital platforms first.

Participants at the seminar said that amid strong competition from digital platforms, live radio programmes have become spaces for multi-dimensional interaction and dialogue. Building a live radio script is not only about writing content but about designing the flow of thinking, emotion and interaction with listeners.

At the seminar, representatives from provincial newspapers and radio and television stations shared their perspectives, preparation and implementation of live radio entries at the festival.
