Almost 200 domestic and foreign project managers and scientists are gathering in the central highland province of Lam Dong to discuss the clinical tests of new drugs and standard procedures for biomedicine research on humans.

At the event that began on August 24, the Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien said that her ministry has issued a number of regulations on clinical tests on humans and the creation of an ethics council.

Ms Tien, who is also the President of the ministry’s Science and Ethics Council, emphasized the need to update legislation on the medical sector in order to support research, development and the application of new products. She said that this would protect the health and rights of people who take part in research and help people to access scientific and technological developments.

The ministry presented a draft circular on the clinical tests of new drugs and the proposed new standards for the ethics council.

Representatives from the US, Thai and Canadian Ethics Councils talked about their operational models and shared their experiences during the two-day seminar.
