The Ministry of Justice in coordination with the Vietnam Office of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) held a seminar in Hanoi on August 21 to discuss a draft of the Adoption Law.
Participants said it is essential that adoption be regulated by law to create stability in adoptive relations and conform adoption procedures to international standard. They said that the law needs to define pre-conditions for adopting children as well as legal procedures and related consequences of child adoption. Currently, many people feel free to give away or adopt children to take advantage of State incentives.
The Party and State are paying close attention to the Adoption Law because of its moral significance. The draft law will be submitted to the Standing Committee of the National Assembly before it goes to the 6th meeting of the 12th NA for final vote.
