A seminar was held in Hanoi on July 21 to raise the awareness of workers and employers of ways to prevent an influenza A (H1N1) pandemic in the workplace.

The event was co-organised by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development and the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

At the seminar, both local and foreign experts exchanged information about the danger of a potential A/H1N1 epidemic and devised strategies to prevent the flu from spreading on a large scale at workplaces.

Specifically, the experts urged employers to provide their workers with clear instructions on how to maintain hygienic conditions at work.

ILO experts also agreed on four five preventive measures to be applied by small and medium-sized businesses including receiving updated information on the epidemic, developing an action plan for a possible pandemic in humans or poultry, improving personal hygiene and supporting sick workers and their relatives.
