Sea protection campaign to be launched in central region

An environment protection campaign in tourism activities, themed “Blue Vietnamese Sea”, will take place in five central coastal cities and provinces of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Da Nang from May 18-26.

The campaign is co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCMCYU),

The launch ceremony will be held in Binh Minh Square, Cua Lo town, the central province of Nghe An.

During a press conference in Hanoi on May 15, the organising board said following the ceremony, young people from the provincial Tourism Department, the provincial Department of Culture and Sports and the provincial HCMCYU chapter will clean up Cua Lo beach.

Similar activities will be also conducted in other cities and provinces.

During the campaign, the Vietnamese young people will grant clean water to local residents as part of the drought and salinisation prevention programme. The organising board will present five sea protection works, 10 scholarships to children of poor fishermen and 170 rubbish bins.

A friendly football match between Hanoi artists and Song Lam Nghe An club is also planned.

The closing ceremony will attract celebrities and social influencers in Cua Lo, Nghe An and honour individuals and collectives for their active contributions to sea protection and clean-up in the central coastal localities.

According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism’s Institute for Tourism Development Research, Vietnam is home to over 1 million sq.km of sea water surface, more than 2,770 coastal islands and a number of beautiful beaches from the north to the south.

Tourist landmarks include the world natural heritage Ha Long Bay, one of the world’s most beautiful bays Nha Trang Bay, and Da Nang beach – one of the six most attractive beaches on the planet.

Coastal areas attract around 70% of foreign tourists and 50% of domestic visitors each year, contributing 70% of revenue of the country’s tourism sector.
