Scorching heatwave sweeps across Northern and Central Vietnam
VOV.VN - A powerful low-pressure heat system from the west is reaching its peak intensity, causing scorching heat across northern and central Vietnam, with temperatures potentially exceeding 38°C.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the past 24 hours, northern provinces, except Dien Bien and Lai Chau, and areas from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri experienced hot weather. The highest temperatures generally ranged between 35°C and 37°C, with some areas exceeding 37°C.
Some localities recording 38°C or beyond included Phu Tho (38.1°C), Tuyen Quang (38.0°C), Da Nang (38.0°C), Quang Ngai (38.3°C), Gia Lai (38.0°C), Dak Lak (39.0°C), and Khanh Hoa (38.1°C).
The lowest relative humidity in these regions ranged between 50% and 60%.
On August 3 and 4, hot weather will continue in the northern and central regions, with some areas experiencing extreme heat. Maximum temperatures are expected to be 35–37°C, with isolated spots exceeding 37°C.
In Hanoi, extremely hot conditions are forecast on August 3, with no rain at night. Temperatures are anticipated to range from 27–29°C at night and 36–38°C during the day.
In the central region, especially in Da Nang, Quang Ngai and Dak Lak, hot and extremely hot weather will continue, with maximum temperatures commonly 36–38°C, and some places exceeding 38°C. Relative humidity will remain low, around 50–60%.
The heatwave in the North is forecast to last until August 4. From the evening and night of August 4, scattered showers are expected, especially in mountainous areas, where heavy rain may occur. Meanwhile, the heatwave is likely to persist for several more days.
The combination of intense heat and low humidity significantly increases the risk of fires and explosions, particularly in residential areas due to heightened electricity usage, as well as a high risk of forest fires.
Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can also lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, or heatstroke, especially among those working or staying outdoors for extended periods.
