More than 30 scientists from various departments, institutes, and Can Tho University on May 27 attended a seminar on strengthening cooperation to promote Science and Technology activities for socio-economic development in the Mekong Delta region.

The seminar, jointly held by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Tra Vinh provincial People’s Committee, also attracted representatives from several departments of Science and Technology in Mekong provinces.

Ten reports focused on agricultural development activities like high-quality breeding and seeding, post-harvest production and business procedures, measures to use water resources effectively, an orientation for rice growing and processing for export in the 2010-2015 period, and a model for a regional alliance.

Associate Professor Nguyen Quan, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, stressed the importance of ensuring food security and food hygiene and safety.

Mr. Quan said he appreciated greatly the contribution of scientists and scientific and technological administrators in the region, adding that the seminar will give momentum to the development of science and technology in the future.
