Schools submerged as severe flash flood hits Nghe An

VOV.VN - A flash flood triggered by heavy downpours has submerged several schools in Yen Tinh commune, Tuong Duong district in the central province of Nghe An.

Chairman of Yen Tinh commune People’s Committee Vi Van Khiem said the deadly flashflood struck several primary and boarding schools in Yen Tinh commune at 0:30am on September 17 with floodwaters rising to 1.5 metres. Fortunately, all students and teachers were timely evacuated from flooded areas to safer shelters.

Yen Tinh boarding school and Pa Ty primary school were hardest hit by the flash flood. There were no reports of fatalities from the disaster.

On September 18, Tuong Duong district People’s Committee and Department of Education and Training mobilized hundreds of officials, soldiers, policemen and youth union members to clean up mud at flooded areas to ensure safety for students and teachers.
