Russian man detained after fatal drink-driving crash in Nha Trang

VOV.VN - A Russian man has been detained after a drink-driving crash killed a woman in the coastal ward of Nha Trang in Vietnam’s Khanh Hoa province, local police said on May 5.

Smolyakov Konstantin, 35, is being investigated for “violating road traffic regulations causing serious consequences,” according to authorities in Nha Trang.

Preliminary information showed that in the early hours of May 4, after drinking alcohol with friends, Konstantin rode a motorbike alone back to his accommodation.

He allegedly lost control of the vehicle and struck a woman, believed to be around 70 years old, as she was crossing the street. The victim suffered severe injuries and died on the way to the hospital.

A blood alcohol test showed Konstantin had a level of 268.8 mg per 100 ml of blood, far exceeding the legal limit.

Police are completing the case file and coordinating with relevant agencies to handle the case in accordance with the law.
