The Border Guard Force and the Foreign Affairs Department of the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau on May 13 handed over nine foreign sailors, who were rescued on May 3 while floating in Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) sea area.

The sailors include six Indonesian, two Malaysian and one Myanmar.

They met with an accident while being on board Malaysia flag cargo carrier Atlantis 3 en route from Malaysia to Singapore.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mochamad Alimudin POHAN, Indonesian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City expressed thanks to the Vietnamese Government, particularly Ba Ria-Vung Tau provincial authorities, for their care of the seamen during the past days.

He stressed that the action would help boost relations between Vietnam and regional countries.
