A requiem will be held on Truong Sa island district on April 28 to pay tribute to and honour soldiers who laid down their lives for national liberation and unification.

The Khanh Hoa provincial Buddhist Sangha’s Executive Council says it will hold the mass at 08.00 hrs as part of activities to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Truong Sa’s Liberation Day (April 29) and Southern Liberation Day (April 30). The event will also mark the 55th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Navy.

These activities are being carried out by the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant agencies from April 24-28.

The programme includes presenting gifts to Truong Sa islanders, releasing flower lanterns on to the sea, holding a requiem for soldiers, inaugurating a pagoda on Truong Sa and running a televised broadcast linking Truong Sa and Hanoi.

Overseas Vietnamese who have returned for Southern Liberation Day celebrations will also attend these activities.
