A requiem was held at the Kon Tum prison on January 9 for heroic martyrs and citizens who laid down their lives during the two resistance wars for national independence in Kon Tum province.

The requiem was carried out with the Buddhist rituals and was attended by a number of provincial leaders, members of the armed forces, monks, nuns and local people.

Chairman of the Kon Tum City People’s Committee, Pham Thanh Ha, recalled the glorious history of the nation and outstanding feats of arms during the two resistance wars.

Local people and relatives of heroic martyrs released thousands of birds and fish along with 1,200 lanterns on the Dak Bla River to show their gratitude to people who sacrificed their lives for national independence.
