The Vietnam Red Cross Society’s Central Committee (VRC) on January 25 decided to provide their first relief to Haiti’s people, worth total US$20,000, in response to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ appeal.

Meanwhile, the VRC has started receiving the support of domestic individuals and organisations for Haiti’s people at its headquarters on Nguyen Du street, Hanoi. Vietnam and Thailand are the two first Red Cross societies in the Southeast Asian region to aid Haiti.

“Assisting Haiti’s people is an action to confirm the Vietnamese people’s traditional values of humanitarian to victims of natural disasters all over the world,” said Doan Van Thai, Deputy Chairman and General Secretary of the VRC.

After the earthquake, the VRC sent a message of condolence to Haiti’s people, especially the victims’ families. The VRC hopes Haiti’s people will overcome the disaster’s consequences and stabilise their lives with the aid of the Vietnam Red Cross.

The Haiti disaster death toll has reached 150,000, according to the latest report.
