Of the new cases, 164 patients are in the south, 22 in the central region, nine in the north and the others are in the Central Highlands, reported the Preventive Medicine and Environment under the Health Ministry.

The department said that as of Sept. 10, the country had discovered 4,265 A/H1N1 patients, including five deaths, of whom 3,298 people were discharged from hospital and the remainders are currently in quarantine for treatment.

Although Vietnam has had five deaths, samples take from the infected patients indicate that the deadly virus has yet to show signs of generating variants and resisting Tamiflu, said Dr. Nguyen Hong Hanh, Vice Director of the Central Institute of Epidemiology and Hygiene.

Next week, the institute will send delegations to provinces and cities nationwide to examine 37 local Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test labs. Qualified labs will be allowed to conduct A/H1N1 tests to reduce the strain on central facilities.
