Rare pink dolphins appear off Do Son beach in Hai Phong
VOV.VN - A pod of more than 20 dolphins, including rare pink dolphins, has appeared in waters off Do Son beach in Hai Phong City, northern Vietnam.
According to the Do Son Border Guard Station, border guards on patrol at sea on the morning of May 10 discovered the pod about one nautical mile from Hon Dau Island.
Dolphins are often found in clean waters with rich ecosystems. In folk belief, they are regarded as symbols of peace, good fortune and positive things.
A representative of Do Son Ward said the appearance of the dolphins was an encouraging sign, showing that the marine environment in Do Son has continued to improve.
In recent years, Do Son Ward has organised various activities to protect the marine environment and implemented measures to deal with pollution hotspots while maintaining a green, clean and attractive coastal landscape for tourism.
The locality has also worked with Hai Phong’s Department of Agriculture and Environment to inspect and assess environmental conditions in coastal areas, fishing ports and wharves, while reviewing waste and wastewater collection and treatment systems and the environmental capacity of the area.
Under Hai Phong’s master plan for tourism development through 2030, with a vision to 2045, the city aims to develop Do Son into a modern and well-integrated tourism area closely linked with related service systems, helping turn tourism into one of the city’s key economic sectors in the coming time.
