Quang Ninh authorities reject Tra Co church demolition rumour

Authorities of the northern province of Quang Ninh have rejected information saying the local administration demolished Tra Co church in Mong Cai city.

Secretary of the Party Committee of Mong Cai city Ngo Hoang Ngan on March 13 said that the dismantlement was performed by the Tra Co Catholic Church on March 9.

Ngan also highlighted fine relations between the local authorities with religious organisations in the locality, saying that local authorities always create all possible conditions for religious organisations to operate.
Also on March 13, Priest Ngo Van Vang, head of the Tra Co Parish, said the parish demolished the old, downgraded church to build a new one.

Previously, posts on a number of social networks, especially Facebook, made corrupt use of the images featuring the demolition of the Tra Co Church, and intentionally distorted that that local authorities demolished the church, damaging local authorities’ prestige.
