Public Security Ministry, Nokia boost cooperation in private 5G, Next-Gen technologies

VOV.VN - Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang received Andrew Cope, Head of Asia-Pacific (APAC) at Nokia, in Hanoi on the afternoon of October 15 to discuss strengthening cooperation in telecommunications, artificial intelligence, and secure digital infrastructure.

At the reception, Minister Luong Tam Quang praised Nokia's global standing and expertise as a leading telecommunications technology group with extensive experience in researching, developing, and deploying advanced network solutions.

He noted Nokia's strength in 5G, core networks, cloud computing, AI applied in telecommunications, secure digital infrastructure, as well as specialized communication networks for public safety, railways, and airports.

According to Minister Quang, these areas play an important role in national digital transformation, modernizing communication infrastructure, and enhancing public safety capabilities worldwide.

Outlining Vietnam's national strategy to build modern telecommunications and digital infrastructure that meets socio-economic development needs alongside national defence and security, Minister Quang expressed Vietnam's wish to enhance cooperation with top global partners like Nokia in research, technology transfer, workforce training, and advanced telecommunications deployment.

Based on Nokia's strengths and the practical requirements of the Ministry of Public Security, Minister Quang urged the group to share experience, transfer technology, and collaborate on R&D for next-generation technologies such as 5G-Advanced, 6G, AI, IoT, cloud computing, and automated networks to boost Vietnam's technological self-reliance.

Both sides agreed to expand joint R&D and technology transfer serving public security tasks, particularly in next-generation telecommunications, AI, data analytics, and cybersecurity. They also planned to work tougher on establishing R&D and innovation centers while connecting international experts.

Additionally, Minister Quang called for cooperation in developing secure, high-resilience telecommunications infrastructure that ensures uninterrupted communications during emergencies and natural disasters. He suggested exploring solutions and technology transfer for dedicated private 5G mobile networks serving operational forces in areas with special security requirements.

The Minister also emphasized human resource development through specialized training programs, expert exchanges, and technology transfer in data, AI, high-performance computing (HPC), and emerging technologies to enhance the operational capability of public security personnel.

In turn, Andrew Cope shared Nokia's technological strengths and strategic direction in Vietnam and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

Expressing agreement with Minister Quang's proposals, Cope affirmed that Nokia values cooperation opportunities with Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security and stands ready to share experience, introduce technology solutions suitable for practical needs, and explore joint research initiatives in areas of mutual interest.
