Public order disruption case in Ha Tinh prosecuted

The Investigation Policy Agency of central Ha Tinh province on April 12 decided to prosecute a criminal case of “public order disruption” and “unlawful seizure” that took place on April 3 in Loc Ha district’s Thach Bang commune.

Decision No. 18/CSDT-PC44 was signed by Colonel Tran Hai Trung, deputy director of the province’s Investigation Police Agency and sent to the provincial People’s Procuracy.

It was based on Article 123 and Article 245 of the Criminal Code, as well as Articles 34, 100 and 104 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

At around 8.40am on April 3, some 2,000 locals carrying slogan-printed banners and loudspeakers evaded the front yard of the Loc Ha People’s Committee’s office, demanding compensation for the environmental incident of mass fish deaths caused by the Hung Nghiep Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Company and accusing the police of hitting citizens with rocks, the Cong an Nhan dan (People’s Police) online newspaper reported.

At 10.30am, some leaders of the protesters hit and seized police officer Nguyen Bao Trung and encircled to prevent others from taking him to the hospital.

The protest was dismissed at 2pm of the same day following communications with local authorities.

Most of the protesters are parishioners of the Trung Nghia parish in Thach Bang ward and Kim Doi parish in Thach Kim ward, the newspaper reported.
